Description

Correctional Services and the Treatment of the Offender

This course will examine corrections systems, theory and research and their practical application. The class will review the evolving purposes of sanctions, sentencing and alternative dispositions while examining the role of correctional policies and programs. The class will examine the roles of agencies and institutions, address current issues and concerns, and evaluate evidence-based practices in corrections systems. Students will be expected to engage in discussions regarding the impact of changes in crime, delinquency and justice policy, including political, social, and economic issues that have impacted juvenile justice and correctional programs and operations.
