3 steps to Install WordPress Locally

A local server is a website server, much like what you will purchase via a company like GoDaddy, that's running inside the machine you put in it on. It's highly advantageous when developing WordPress websites as you don't need to commit your changes online to determine the edits and you may break the website without anybody knowing. Local servers will also be ideal for testing WordPress updates before updating them on your live websites.

You are able to install and configure WordPress - locally - in five simple steps.

1. Download & Install XAMPP

XAMPP (pronounced zamp) is a free PHP development atmosphere which contains MariaDB (or MySQL based on which release version you download), PHP and Perl and will also be the backbone for the local server.

3. Create Database & User in phpMyAdmin

  • Open phpMyAdmin by clicking the Admin button in XAMPP
  • Click on the Databases tab, name your database without spaces and click on create
  • Select your database for that left hand’s column
  • Click on the Privileges tab and add a user.
  • DB_NAME = your database name

  • DB_PASSWORD = password for that database user
