It is no secret that the 21st century has become the century for machines and technology. All the manual work can now be done with a machine in the blink of an eye. The same goes for the web hosting industry which has been progressing ever since. This has been because of the fact that most business transactions are being done via the internet and people are using the internet for both professional and personal use more often nowadays.

With the fast-evolving industry, many web hosting service providers have emerged. While some were highly successful, some did not work out and their businesses were shut down. The hosting industry statistics show exactly this to anyone with the knowledge or use of web hosting. Some of these statistics are discussed below to see which organization stands where. These statistics are from 2017 and show what the industry has been up to and what is the market share of some of the top companies.

Web Hosting Services

Number One CMS Hosting Service: WordPress

Anyone who has even thought of making a website would know about WordPress. According to the statistics, it was found that WordPress is one of the most popular CMSs in the world. The website was created as a blogging site in 2004 and has been successful since its inception. If this was not amazing enough, the website has more than 76.5 M blogs that are active on the website and WordPress is responsible for more than 2.5 B posts. Moreover, around 44.6 M comments are added to the service monthly and there are almost 409 M views on its pages every month. WordPress also gets 50k new blogs each day.

GoDaddy on the Top

When comparing the top 10 million websites on the internet, GoDaddy gets the award for hosting the most websites available on the internet. It acquires and hosts around 6.3% of the world’s websites. The second place is held by Amazon which hosts about 4.9% of websites, while OVH has 4.4% websites under its belt and sits on the third place.

However, if the market shares are compared with the top million websites or top 10,000 websites, the figures would be slightly different. Here, GoDaddy doesn’t have dominance but has second position and 9th position respectively. This is still impressive seeing as the web host still remains in the top 10 when it comes to market share.

Top 10 Companies Have Captured One-Fourth Market Share

It has been seen in the hosting industry statistics that when the top 10 companies in the web hosting industry are compared, it has been observed that they hold almost 24% of the web hosting market. This means that around one-fourth of the market shares are acquired by the top 10 companies in the web hosting service industry.
