Description

This course is intended to facilitate development and sharing of knowledge of important and timely subjects in the field of Criminal Justice and Criminology by integrating research, theory, policy and practice through in-depth examination of issues and questions of concern to the field. Students examine (a) the nature and causes of specific crimes (such as terrorism, organized crime, white collar crimes), including incidents, prevalence, and impact on the United States, (b) strategies for preventing and controlling these violations of criminal law, (c) the current thrust of U.S. policy and organizational structure for combating such violations, (d) specific problems such crimes present for criminal justice system agencies. Prerequisite: CJC 101. Note: This is a topics course that may be taken for credit two times provided that the course studies a different topic each time.
