This course builds on the study of issues in curriculum begun in EDU 512 Contemporary Issues in Education, including the presentation of methods for evaluating, planning, and/or revising elementary school curriculum. This course will require candidates to extend their philosophy of curriculum differentiation. It will introduce candidates to research based strategies and help them learn to develop and articulate their rationale for using specific strategies to meet the learning needs of the students in the classroom. Candidates will learn to foster the integration of 21st century content and skills into educational practices. They will also learn to develop a relevant, rigorous curriculum that demonstrates the interconnectedness of disciplines and show that they understand the importance of curriculum relevance in engaging students in content.
