Description
Introduction to the basic principles of research design and analysis in psychology, including the formulation, testing and evaluation of empirical questions. Students learn methodological and statistical techniques utilized in the research process. Specifically, the course focuses on experimental designs and statistical techniques including descriptive statistics and preliminary inferential technigues (i.e., probability theory, z-tests and t-tests). Emphasis is placed on the development of an independent research proposal written in APA style. Students also learn to use a statistical software package (SPSS). Prerequisite: PSY 101 and MTH 120 or equivalent. Note: 2-hour laboratory required in addition to the regular three hours of lecture per week.
