( Statistics for the Social Science)
This course builds upon knowledge from PSY 270 (Experimental Psychology), while introducing students to the basics of statistics and quantitative analysis within the context of the science of psychology. Topics include sampling methods, probability, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, correlation, basic regression, t-tests, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and chi-square. Focus is place on being able to apply knowledge from this course in two ways: 1. being able to choose which statistical procedures are appropriate for answering specific type of research question, and 2. being able to run basic statistical software (e.g. SAS/JMP). Spring.Prerequisite: PSY 270, MTH 120/130. Note: 2-hour laboratory required in addition to the regular three hours of lecture per week.
This course serves as the Gateway course for Psychology majors. A grade of C- or higher is required for graduation.
